Change of address checklist: who to tell when you move

Enter your move date and switch on what applies to your household. The checklist lists the kinds of organisations that hold your address and the day to contact each group. It names categories, not forms: each country and company has its own process.

Questions

Who do I need to tell when I move house?

Broadly: the postal service, home service suppliers, banks and lenders, insurers, official bodies, your employer, health providers, schools and any subscription that is delivered. The checklist lists them by group and adds vehicles, children and pets when you switch those on.

When should I change my address?

Suppliers and the internet provider two to four weeks before, banks and insurers in the last week, and official records on or after the move date where they only accept a current address. Enter your move date to see each day.

Why does the list not name the forms to fill in?

Official procedures are different in every country and change over time. Naming a form would be wrong for most visitors, so the list names the kind of office and sends you to its official website.
