Move Ready

Household and packing

Checklists for who is moving and what the move is packed in.

How to choose

Two of these checklists are about the members of the household who did not choose the move. Moving with kids changes with the age of the children: a baby needs the routine kept, a school-age child needs a school place and a goodbye, a teenager needs a say. Moving with pets changes with the animal and the journey, from a cat in a carrier for an hour to a dog on a drive of several days.

The other two are about things. The packing supplies list estimates boxes, tape and paper from the number of bedrooms and how full the home is, and says plainly that these are estimates to adjust. The first-night essentials box is the opposite of bulk: one or two boxes, packed last and opened first, sized for the number of people and the nights until everything else arrives.

All four work beside a timeline. The timeline tells you when; these tell you what to prepare for the people, the animals and the boxes.
